How we measure Impact

We believe there should be no trade-off between financial and social returns.  While measuring financial return is relatively straightforward, measuring social return is more complex.  Working with other like-minded investment managers, the Quona team developed an impact framework focused on Access, Quality and Markets.

Access refers to expanding the availability of financial services to consumers and businesses that currently have inadequate access.  Sample metrics include the number of individuals and households served, accounts opened, loans issued and transaction volumes.

Quality is defined as appropriateness and effectiveness of product fit. Sample metrics include product affordability, processing times and customer retention.

Markets refers to the development of the financial sector, of innovation, of local talent and of business model scalability. Though measuring a company’s indirect market impact is especially challenging, we look for measurable metrics such as the influx of new capital, new competitors, new product offerings and job creation.
